Presence Power: The Magic in Each Moment

How often do we rush through one season of life, convinced that the next one will finally bring fulfilment? From childhood to adulthood, we are often taught to keep moving forward — to chase the next milestone, the next achievement, and the next stage. Yet in that pursuit, we sometimes miss the quiet magic available in the present moment. This reflection explores how constantly looking ahead can rob us of the richness of now — and how presence becomes the gateway to a fuller life.

The Illusion of the Next Stage 🏃‍♀️

I remember when I was in primary school. I could not wait to finish so that I could go to high school. At high school, adulthood seemed glamorous — the ultimate good.

After a decade or two of adulting, I realized that all that glitters is not gold. The goalposts always seemed to shift, almost like a mirage. Each achievement simply moved me toward another destination.

Looking back, I realized I should have savoured the moment. There was more I could have extracted from each season I lived. Instead, I preoccupied myself with what needed to be done so that I could swiftly move to the next stage. I was not fully present.

Learning the Art of Being Present

The art of being in each moment is something I constantly need to remind myself of. One period that deeply challenged how I approached life was during the COVID pandemic.

Comparisons — whether from peers, social media, or global expectations — had created pressure that made me feel like I was running a rat race. Then the pandemic forced everything to stop.

The information we received was often confusing, incoherent, and illogical. Consuming the news only increased fear. One morning, I woke up with a stomach cramp. Because of the lockdown, there were no distractions. I could not simply take medication and rush to the next task. I had the luxury of sitting with myself.

Listening Beyond the Noise

In that stillness, I realized my body had always been communicating with me. It signaled when I had consumed something that was not beneficial — whether food, drink, or stress. My need to always be in control had often pushed me to ignore those signals.

But that moment invited me to go beyond mental clutter and incessant worry. By turning inward, I was able to anchor myself in peace. I focused on doing things that maintained that inner calm.

Anchored in Peace During uncertain times

As soon as travel bans were lifted, I travelled to Durban. I stayed with a friend who is a nurse helping infected patients. Surprisingly, I was not afraid. Taking precautions was important, but staying anchored in inner peace was even more vital.

Through regular practice of stillness and tapping into that quiet knowing, I was not consumed by fear. During that period, I encountered several people who were infected. I tested multiple times, yet remained negative.

Looking back, I attribute much of my resilience to being grounded in presence rather than overwhelmed by anxiety.

Returning to the Rush

Several years later, life has returned to its fast pace. Once again, I sometimes get carried away striving for the next goalpost. I forget the power of the present moment.

This morning, I was reminded:
Be content with who you are and where you are.

It is easy to disregard how the current version of myself is serving my becoming. Yet this version holds the key to the next. I must value her, thank her, and embrace her.

Be still and know

Psalm46:

There is a profound clarity that exists only in the absence of noise. While panic obscures our path, stillness reveals our truth. It is where I rediscover my voice and my light, allowing me to fully grasp the value of simply being present in this moment.

The Gift of the Journey

I constantly remind myself that life is not about the destination — it is about the journey. Each new day is a gift, offering incremental growth. When I feel despondent or nonchalant, I return to the invitation of seeking hopeful joy in each moment.

Presence is powerful. It transforms ordinary experiences into meaningful ones. It reminds us that growth happens now, not just at the finish line.

The magic of life is not hidden in some distant future. It lives in each present moment — waiting to be noticed, embraced, and lived fully. ✨

In essence, Presence Power is the ultimate form of sustainable success. It’s the engine that fuels the pursuit of ambition without sacrificing fulfillment. As this personal reflection has shown, Presence Power is not merely about achieving; it’s about becoming – embracing who you are today as the necessary and worthy bridge to the person you are striving to become tomorrow.
