Arise and Shine

In the stillness of a beautiful garden, I was reminded that growth is never accidental — it is nurtured. The same way a garden thrives through intentional care, our inner world also blossoms when we tend to it with honesty, courage, and love. Arise and Shine is a gentle reflection on reclaiming your inner garden, facing the weeds we avoid, and remembering that true radiance comes from within.

Today I sat in a beautiful garden.
I was mesmerised by the flowers — each one unique in shape and size, bold in colour, and unapologetic in its beauty.
The lush green grass, the stillness, the fragrance, the harmony — everything drew me in.

But what struck me most was how the garden made me feel.

As I sat there, a thought rose within me:
The grass is not greener on the other side — the grass is greener where it is watered.

And suddenly, the difference between an unkempt garden and a beautiful one became clear.
It is in the tending — the daily attention, the watering, the removing of weeds, and the creative care that helps it blossom.

The Inner Garden

I realised this is exactly what happens with my own inner garden.
Life gets busy — work demands, children’s needs, social commitments, and even noble causes.
And in the midst of all this, I forget to tend to the garden within me.

There are also the emotions I dread facing:
hurt, disappointment, sadness, anger.

I fear that if I open the floodgates, the emotions will overwhelm me.
I wonder if I have the time, the capacity, or the strength to unpack it all.

The Wake-Up Call

Last night, I woke up in the middle of the night and couldn’t fall back asleep.
I had procrastinated long enough, and now the moment had cornered me.

Whether I liked it or not, it was time to pay attention to my inner garden.
Time to unpack the discomfort I had ignored —
the weeds I needed to pull out
and the seeds of truth and affirmation I needed to plant.

The Lessons

1. Inner Hygiene

The first lesson I learned is the importance of inner hygiene — tending to my emotional and mental well-being regularly so nothing builds up to the point of waking me in the middle of the night.

2. The Gift of Aloneness

The second lesson is the gift of being alone with myself.
Aloneness clarifies who I am becoming through the thoughts I embrace.
It helps me set boundaries around habits and patterns that dim my light.

3. Courage to Confront Discomfort

The third lesson is that facing discomfort gives me the power to take charge of my life.
At first, I want to make excuses and justify my feelings, to avoid consequences, to indulge in self-pity, to become a victim.

But then the alarm bells ring.
I remember my promise to grow.
And slowly, the strength rises to take responsibility for my own garden.

4. Drawing From My Inner Wealth

Lastly, I realised I have a wealth of inner resources to support myself through every challenge.
I can draw from self-compassion, patience, faith, intuition, and purpose.
I find inspiration in the past versions of myself who have overcome unimaginable hurdles.

And then comes intention
the intention to cultivate my inner beauty,
to nurture what gives life,
and to uproot what drains it.

As I commit to this process,
I rise.
And as I rise,
I shine.

A Gentle Commitment

I give myself unconditional permission to let my light shine.
I choose to tend to my inner garden first —
because how I care for the inside determines how I show up in every space I enter.

Today, and every day forward,
I choose to arise.
I choose to shine.

May you remember that your inner garden is sacred ground.
May you tend to it with patience, grace, and tenderness.
May you rise each morning willing to face the shadows you once feared.
And may you shine — not because the world gives you permission,
but because the light within you was always meant to be seen.
