Realizing the Safety Within
Growing up, I believed success and recognition would finally make me feel worthy. But beneath my ambition was a quiet longing to be chosen. This reflection unpacks how seeking external validation shaped my journey — and how learning to choose myself became the real beginning of inner safety and purpose.
Realizing the Safety Within
Growing up, I never dreamed of being chosen by a Prince Charming or living in a castle “happily ever after.”
My dream was different.
I wanted to work hard, become a successful woman, and be a queen in my own castle.
I believed my ambition was rooted in purpose and passion — but years later, I discovered an unexpected truth:
Beneath my ambition was a deep desire to be chosen.
I was seeking validation through my hard work.
I longed for recognition — the kind that would come from a boss, a leader, or anyone in authority — because I believed that recognition meant I was worthy.
My motivation went far beyond financial reward.
I was searching for worth.
But after years of going nowhere slowly — or worse, moving in circles — I realized I needed to excavate the root issue within me.
Unpacking the Meaning of Purpose
From my teenage years, I carried a clear desire:
I wanted to leave the world different from how I found it.
I wanted to make a mark in my generation.
I wanted to live out my purpose.
But here’s what I didn’t understand back then:
Even if purpose had shown up early in my life, I would not have accepted it —
because I was still waiting for someone else to validate it.
I once believed purpose was one giant decision that caused everything to fall into place.
Now I know better:
Purpose is a series of choices — small, consistent decisions that create the bigger picture.
Sometimes those choices are applauded.
Sometimes they are opposed.
Consistency, courage, and faithfulness to the deeper calling matter far more than the applause of others.
This is what every significant woman and man in history understood.
They didn’t wait to be chosen —
they chose themselves, repeatedly and boldly.
The Journey Back to Myself
For a long time, I was lost — running without clarity, making decisions without understanding their weight.
It took painful lessons for me to finally face the truth:
I had been choosing everything and everyone else except myself.
But no matter how long it took, I am grateful.
Because now, I am learning to choose myself.
Not in dramatic moments, but in small, steady steps.
Each one building on the last.
In the beginning, the journey felt inspiring and emotional.
But as I progressed, it became uncomfortable.
My nervous system was unfamiliar with this new way of being.
It had been conditioned to find safety in people and predictable systems.
Now, I am learning a new system —
the system of choosing myself first.
Choosing Myself Without Apology
Being chosen is beautiful, but I no longer depend on it.
I can give that gift to myself first —
and if recognition comes from others, it is simply a bonus, not my foundation.
Because true safety, true worth, and true identity
can only come from within.
And for the first time, I am learning to trust that place.
✨ Closing Reflection
Maybe the greatest shift in a woman’s life is the moment she stops waiting to be chosen and begins choosing herself — gently, daily, and without apology.
